CaringBridge Blog Day 6

Day 6

Journal entry by Ashley Millan —

Hey everyone, this is Ashley here to update on Mike! It’s been a busy morning with nurses popping in, machines going off and Doctors coming and going during their rounds. Not one detail is over looked here in this room and the Doctors are always well aware of how Mike is doing. They try their hardest to figure out what will make him most comfortable and that is so reassuring. The nurse even ordered him a new bed to help with backpain.

Today Mike starts a new Chemo called Cytoxan, which he will have 2 days in a row. The good news with this is most nausea side effects are less likely to happen vs the Busulfan which has been rough for him. The Doctors decided to give him a new type of anti nausea that’s suppose to really be effective. We were also told by the Doctor that this should be the tail end of all the stomach problems(thank goodness) Tomorrow however he will begin his anti rejection drug called AGT which helps prevent the graft vs host disease. We will give more detail on that tomorrow but the nurse did give Mike a warning that he will be pretty uncomfortable from it.

Also, a lot of these medications make him very VERY sleepy so please know if you have sent messages his way that he is getting them however he is just too sleepy to respond. All the positive love, support and prayers are beyond amazing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for each and everyone of you!

For now Mike will continue to rest and take this one day at a time! Even through these rough days I have hardly heard him complain and he amazes me constantly with how well he is handeling all that is thrown his way. Missing his little boys is the biggest and hardest part for him. But before he knows it he will be home wishing he had the peace and quiet of his hospital room! My job is to keep a close eye on him and assist anytime he is on his feet. He seems to be pretty unsteady from all his fatigue so he doesn’t get far from my sights. More updates to come but I will leave a quote I feel reminds me of Mike…

“It is often in the darkest skies that we see the brightest stars”

He is my bright star! Even on these dark time that can seem so scary….I can still look to him and see his strength and it’s only contagious!

Take care everyone and thank you for following!
