CaringBridge Blog Update 10/11/17

Day +6

Journal entry by Ashley Millan —

Hey friends and family!

Today Mike’s levels continue to bottom out(as expected) and will be treated as needed. So far this morning he has received platelets as well as blood since both his hemoglobin and platelets were too low. They treat him with Benadryl before hand to help prevent any reaction to them so he is very very sleepy! He also got another dose of the Methotrexate which is the one that helps prevent GVHD. He will have one more dose on that on the 16th as well.

The nurses do a great job and sit along side him while he receives the blood, platelets and methotrexate, just to watch and check his vitals. As I have said before, not one thing is over looked here!

He is in good spirits and continues to be his funny joking self when he is awake, which makes me so happy!! I’ll be sure to post some photos of the transfusion so you get an idea of what it’s like.

Not much else to update on…the only complaint he seems to have is his esophagus hurts when he swallows. The Doctors said that is a common feeling since the Chemo affects that area pretty badly. Once he begins to get his cells up, that should start to get better!

But we hope everyone is doing well!! Thanks for checking in.
