Biopsy

Before my transplant I was required to undergo numerous screenings to ensure I was ready for transplant. This was my 7th Bone Marrow Biopsy since December 2015. Its an out-patient procedure that takes about 2 hours start to finish. Mild sedation, but awake for the entire procedure. They wouldnt allow cameras or anyone else in the room due to sterilization purposes. Basically they drill a small hole in my upper hip bone/lower back then extract the marrow for testing. Not too much pain just a lot of pressure. Recovery time is typically around 24-48 hours. The purpose is to check cancer levels in marrow.

Stephanie Crouch is the Owner and Creative Genius behind Rustic Moon Photography. She is also a very close friend of mine who I approached when I was first told by my doctor that I was going to need a Bone Marrow Transplant. I asked Stephanie if she would follow me along this journey and help document the major aspects of the transplant in hopes that one day someone in need of a transplant can use this story as a positive affirmation that everything is going to get better. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be in my life and support me and my family in this journey.
